James read history and geography at Southampton University and then spent a year in industry before deciding on the law as a career. He joined Glanvilles and was articled to John Glanville. Qualifying as a solicitor in 1975 James became a partner in 1978.
James has practised in private client work for many years and has gained very wide experience in advising clients on Wills, inheritance tax planning and trusts. He has also done much work in helping the elderly with their legal affairs (or advising their relations) and has acted on many occasions as a deputy appointed by the Court of Protection.
Outside of work James enjoys sailing, opera, reading and acting as Treasurer and Committee Member for the Emsworth Museum.
