Autumn Budget Stamp Duty and Property Taxes

Following the Chancellor’s Autumn Budget announcement today, 26th November 2025, we can confirm that no changes were made to Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT). All current SDLT rules, rates and reliefs remain fully in place.

The Government did announce that properties in England valued at over £2 million will be subject to a new council tax surcharge. This will apply after the revaluation of homes in Bands F, G and H, with an expected additional charge of between £2,500 and £7,500 per year.

In relation to Capital Gains Tax (CGT), no changes were announced to CGT rates or allowances for the disposal of second homes, investment properties, shares or similar assets. The position remains the same as under the previous Budget.

We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates if further information is released.
