Accidents in the workplace

Accidents can occur anywhere. The injuries they can inflict can be trivial or serious, painful and sometimes permanent. Stephen James, Personal Injury Specialist at Glanvilles explains how accidents in the workplace affect everyday people.

Prevention is far better than cure and we all have a duty to look after ourselves and our work colleagues.  When you realise that there is a potential hazard at work, such as lifting a heavy load repeatedly, make sure you tell your line manager or your health and safety officer.  Sometimes a quick chat and a little thought can prevent an accident or a repetitive strain injury occurring.

According to the Health and Safety Executive annual figures for accidents at work for 2010/2011 revealed:

- 1.2 million working people were suffering from a work related illness

- 175 workers were killed during the course of their employment

- There were 200,000 reportable injuries (where an employee was absent from work for 3 days or more)

- 26.4 million working days were lost due to work related illness and workplace injuries.

In the course of my work I have seen many clients who have received life changing injuries when a little thought would have prevented the accident occurring in the first place.  Unfortunately no amount of money will ever compensate for the loss of a limb, an eye, or a serious back/neck injury.

If you have been unlucky enough to have been injured as a result of an accident at work, or an injury has arisen during the course of your employment or you have suffered any other injury - perhaps relating to a road traffic accident, slipping at a supermarket, or a trip on a broken pavement you may be entitled to compensation for your physical injuries and your consequential losses.

Glanvilles are able to proceed with potential claims on a "no win no fee" basis with no financial risk to yourself.
