Probate
We act for executors and as executors and deal with a wide range of estates; large and small, simple or complicated. Some contain foreign assets owned by those who have died in England, others English assets owned by those who have died abroad. Some contain shares in family businesses or private companies or others land with development potential.
We will establish the value of the estate, prepare the appropriate inheritance tax account or return and the oath to obtain probate or letters of administration. We will then collect in the assets, pay the debts, expenses and legacies and ensure that the rest of the estate is distributed correctly.
We prepare detailed estate accounts and (unless an accountant is already involved) will normally prepare the deceased’s last tax return and the estate’s tax returns before providing the beneficiaries with appropriate tax deduction certificates.
We can also advise beneficiaries on deeds of variation.
